Empowering Girls in Lacrosse: The Rock and Roll from X Dodge Drill

The "Rock and Roll from X Dodge" drill is excellent for teaching girls to dodge from the X position, moving side to side and finding space in the five-by-five location at the top of the area.

Instructions:

Setup: Place a line of girls behind the goal and move them off the field.

Start: One girl begins in the X position (behind the goal).

Movements:

  • The girl advances towards one side of the goal.

  • She performs a roll and moves around the crease.

Arrival at the five-by-five spot:

Once the girl reaches the five-by-five area, she can choose to:

  • Take a jump shot from that position.

  • Or perform a "question mark" shot, which involves faking to one side before shooting in the opposite direction.

Rotation:

After three girls complete the drill, the goalies should switch positions.

Benefits of the "Rock and Roll from X Dodge" Drill:

  1. Fosters teamwork: Performing the drill in line helps girls learn to coordinate and communicate better with their teammates.

  2. Improves dodging technique: Girls learn to execute more effective dodging movements, allowing them to avoid defenders more efficiently.

  3. Develops agility: This drill promotes agility and the ability to change direction quickly, crucial skills in lacrosse.

  4. Enhances decision-making: Girls must quickly decide whether to shoot or continue moving, improving their ability to make decisions under pressure.

  5. Increases shooting confidence: By practicing different types of shots (jump and "question mark"), girls gain confidence in their ability to finish plays.

  6. Improves endurance: Repeating the drill helps develop endurance and overall physical capacity, essential for staying competitive during the game.

  7. Reinforces game awareness: Girls learn to read the defense and recognize shooting opportunities, enhancing their overall field vision.

  8. Practices different shooting angles: Moving around the crease allows girls to practice shooting from multiple angles, increasing their versatility as attackers.

  9. Increases shooting strength: The variety of shots encourages the development of strength and precision when throwing, which is crucial for scoring.

  10. Stimulates creativity: Experimenting with different dodging patterns and shots allows girls to develop their personal style and creativity on the field.

This drill is integral for developing both technical and physical skills in girls playing lacrosse.
