Messy Yard Girls Lacrosse Drill

Objective: The objective is to have the fewest balls on your side of the field at the end of the set time.

Materials:

  • 20 or more lacrosse balls (depending on the number of girls).

  • Lacrosse sticks for each girl.

  • A field divided into two zones (each team has its own “yard”).

Development:

  • Teams: Divide the girls into two teams. Each team is positioned on one side of the field or playing area.

  • Initial Placement: Place all the balls in the center of the field, between both teams.

  • Start of the Game: At the sound of the whistle, the girls run to the center of the field, pick up the balls using their sticks, and must carry them to the opposite side, that is, to the “yard” of the opposing team.

Action:

  • Transporting Balls: The girls must lift and transport the balls with their sticks. Carrying them with hands is not allowed.

  • Dropping the Ball: Once a girl reaches the opposite side, she must drop the ball with her stick in the area of the opposing team and quickly return to her side to continue the process.

  • Collecting Balls: The girls can also pick up the balls that are on their side and carry them to the opposite side.

End of the Game:

  • After a predetermined time (1-3 minutes), the game is stopped with the whistle.

  • Winner: The team with the fewest balls on their side of the field at the end of the time is the winner.

Additional Rules:

  • Only One Ball at a Time: Each girl can transport only one ball in her stick.

  • No Throwing Balls: The balls must be transported using the stick and cannot be thrown or tossed.

  • Foul Control: If a girl throws the ball, commits a foul, or interferes with another girl illegally, her team must keep an extra ball on their side of the field as a penalty.

  • Safety Zones: A safety zone can be established around the center to avoid collisions, where the girls can only enter one at a time.

Variations for Increased Difficulty:

  • Possession Time: To add more challenge, the time a girl can hold a ball in her stick before crossing to the other side can be limited.

  • Transport Conditions: Requires the girls to pass the ball to a teammate before crossing to the other side, promoting teamwork and passing accuracy.

Benefits for Lacrosse:

  • Improves stick skills and ball control under pressure.

  • Encourages teamwork and collective strategy.

  • Promotes speed and quick transitions, essential in lacrosse.

  • Develops quick decision-making and off-ball movement.

This adaptation of the game combines the fun of “Messy Yard” with key lacrosse skills, offering an entertaining activity that reinforces the basic skills of the sport.
