Question Mark Shooting Drill
Set Up:
• Create 2 lines of players, one on each side of the goal.
• Place 2 cones behind the goal at the top of the crease on each side.
• Place 2 more cones on each side, 5 yards up and 5 yards out from the goal, commonly referred to as the “5&5.”
Drill Execution:
• Players dodge to the far cone behind the goal, then roll back toward the goal.
• As they reach the 5&5 cone, they execute another roll back.
• On the rollback at the 5&5, they shift their hands into shooting position and take a shot, focusing on proper form to complete the question mark dodge.
3. Key Focus:
• Maintain control while dodging and rolling back.
• Ensure strong positioning and accuracy on the shot after the rollback.
• Reinforce quick transitions from dodging to shooting.
1. Start with the Weak Hand: Dodge upfield to sell a topside move.
2. Engage the Defender: Lean in to make the defender overcommit.
3. Plant and Roll: Once you’re 5 yards above the goal, plant your foot and roll back into shooting position with the strong hand.
4. Shoot Low: Aim for the lower corner, a high-percentage area to score.
Key Techniques
1. One-Handed Control: Dodge with one hand to maintain better control and avoid defensive checks.
2. Quick Stick Positioning: Shift into shooting position early for faster, more accurate shots.
3. Head Movement: Turn your head quickly to locate the goal and line up your shot.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
• Raising the Stick Too Early: Keep the stick toward the sideline to avoid checks and wasted motion.
• Delayed Hand Transition: Shift your hands early to avoid slowing down your shot.
