2-Minute Offense – With Full Accountability Drill

6v6

Purpose:

To simulate high-pressure game situations where the offense is held accountable for maintaining possession and the defense aggressively presses and clears. This drill improves offensive ball security and defensive pressure.

Setup:

• Drill is run in a half-field setting.

• Split into groups of 6v6, ideally using players who will likely play together in the next game to build familiarity.

• Can be run simultaneously on both halves of the field if there are enough coaches (3-4 coaches needed for multiple groups).

Drill Rules:

Offense:

• The offensive team has two minutes to maintain possession and cannot stall.

• The offense gets the ball back if they score or back up missed shots.

• If they lose possession or turn the ball over, but successfully ride and regain possession before the defense clears over midfield, they retain possession for the remainder of the two minutes.

Defense:

• The defense plays aggressively, pressuring all the way out to the restraining line.

• If the defense causes a turnover and successfully clears over the midfield line, the offensive unit must leave the field.

Accountability Factor:

• If the offense loses possession and the defense clears successfully:

• The offensive players must run sprints for two minutes while fresh offensive and defensive units take the field.

• After running, the offensive unit returns to the field and resumes play.

Key Points:

Offensive Accountability: Forces the offense to take care of the ball under pressure.

Defensive Aggression: Encourages tight, aggressive defense all over the field.

Fast-Paced: Keeps the drill moving quickly, switching players every two minutes.

Conditioning: The offense running sprints adds an endurance component, reinforcing the importance of ball control.

Duration:

The drill should last for 12-15 minutes, with each set running for two minutes. This keeps 24 players engaged every two minutes, with defensive players resting between sets to encourage harder pressing on defense.
