1 v 1 with a Hole Slide

PURPOSE: To allow players to practice 1 v 1 situations and defensive players to practice sliding into the hole.  This allows players to get practice on offense and defense in the same drill.  This drill will also allow offensive players to practice their dodges.

ORGANIZATION:

  • Have a line of midfield and defensive players  at the top of the attack box, top right and top left

  • Have a line of attack behind at X with a defensive line with them

  • There will be a defense player on the side in the attack box waiting to slide

  • When the coach calls the line, the offensive player and defensive player will go 1 v 1

  • When the coach yells slide, the defensive player will slide on the 1 v 1 to the middle of the field

  • Finish the drill with a shot

COACHING POINTS:

  • Make sure offensive player goes to the cage to shoot

  • You can work on certain dodges, then allow kids to pick their dodges

  • Make sure defensive player is moving their feet and moving to the middle of the field to the hole

SKILLS:

  • 1 v 1 work

  • Offense player dodging and going to the cage

  • Defensive positioning

  • Conditioning

  • Defensive slides

  • Communication

VARIATIONS:

  • Vary on the location on the field to start your 1 v 1s

  • Add an offensive player to be with the slide defender, when the defender slides, the offensive player will dump the ball from the slide
