Passing and Rotation Movement - Women's Lacrosse
Objective:
This exercise aims to enhance passing, controlled reception, and communication within the team, all while practicing continuous movement and rotation. It is a versatile drill suitable for both beginner and advanced players, as it can be adapted to different skill levels in women's lacrosse.
Materials Needed:
2 lacrosse balls
Cones or markers to define passing zones
A rectangular area marked with cones (approximately 2x1 yards)
Exercise Description:
Starting the Exercise:
Set up two lines of players, positioned opposite each other, with a distance of about 8 to 10 yards between them.
Mark a rectangular space (2x1 yards) in the middle of these lines, where one player will perform the reception and pass.
Each line should have one player with a lacrosse ball.
The exercise begins with the first player in line A passing the ball to the player standing in the rectangular area (line B).
Player Rotation:
The player in the rectangular area (B) must receive the pass, exit the rectangle, and then pass the ball to the next player in line B. After passing, they will move to the end of line A to repeat the circuit.
Meanwhile, the player from line A who made the initial pass will quickly move into the rectangular area to take the position of the player in line B.
The player who was in the rectangular area (B) will now rotate to line A.
Repeating the Process:
The exercise continues in a fluid motion: pass, exit the rectangle, pass to the next player, and rotate positions. Players keep moving between the lines and the rectangular area.
Key Aspects:
Precise Passing: It’s crucial that the passes are fast and accurate, ensuring that the players can maintain the pace of the exercise.
Efficient Rotation: The player rotation between lines and the rectangular area is key to keeping the dynamic flow of the exercise and ensuring continuous movement.
Variations:
Reduce the Distance Between the Lines: For players who are still refining their passing and reception skills, reduce the distance between the lines to make the passes easier to control.
Add Defensive Pressure: Increase the challenge by adding a defender to apply pressure on the player receiving the pass. This will simulate a more realistic game situation, forcing players to pass under pressure.
Benefits:
Improves both short and long passing accuracy.
Helps develop ball control while moving and under pressure.
Encourages communication, coordination, and quick decision-making among teammates.
Enhances physical conditioning, as the exercise is fast-paced and requires constant movement.
Teaches players to make precise passes while in motion.
Recommendations:
Adjust the distance between the lines depending on the skill level of the players. For beginners, reduce the distance, and for advanced players, increase it to challenge their passing and control abilities.
Make sure players keep a fast pace throughout the exercise to get the maximum benefit, integrating speed, ball control, and accurate passing into their overall training. This exercise is perfect for improving team dynamics, passing under pressure, and quick decision-making, all of which are crucial in women's lacrosse.
