Dynamic Rondo Drill for Women's Lacrosse

the image shows the position of the players and the possible passes that the ball carrier can make

The following drill, inspired by a dynamic exercise used by Bayern Munich Women's team, is an excellent way to improve decision-making, agility, and coordination in women's lacrosse. It is a modified rondo where, in addition to working on passing accuracy, a physical and attentional component is added.

Drill Objective

  • Improve passing accuracy and receiving under pressure.

  • Increase reaction speed and decision-making.

  • Include a physical component to keep players active.

  • Encourage communication and teamwork.

Required Equipment

  • 1 lacrosse ball.

  • Lacrosse sticks for all players.

  • Cones to define the playing area.

Drill Development

Rondo Formation: A group of players forms a circle with one player in the center trying to intercept the passes.

Passing Dynamics: The drill is played with a single ball, and players must pass it to each other while avoiding interception by the center player.

Additional Rules: Each time a player receives a pass, the two teammates next to her must perform a specific physical action, such as:

  • Squat

  • Knee-to-chest jump

  • Rowing motion with the stick

Variety in Actions: Depending on the players' level and age, the physical actions can be adjusted to make them appropriate and engaging.

Incentives and Penalties: If a player performs the wrong action, she must move to the center of the rondo. This keeps attention levels high and minimizes distractions.

Drill Variations

  • With more than one ball: To increase difficulty, two balls can be used simultaneously.

  • With more defenders: Add more players in the center to put more pressure on passes.

  • Including fakes: Before passing, the player with the ball must perform a deceptive move to enhance offensive creativity.

Drill Benefits

  • Develops quick thinking and passing accuracy.

  • Improves physical endurance with additional movements.

  • Encourages cooperation and communication among players.

  • Maintains high attention levels throughout the activity.

This drill is a fun and effective way to train essential lacrosse skills in a dynamic and engaging environment. Try it in your next training session and boost your team's performance!
