Cross Creek Finishing Drill for Women’s Lacrosse

Introduction:
The Cross Creek finishing drill is ideal for teaching women’s lacrosse players how to catch the ball in the midfield area and make quick, effective shots. With this drill, female players practice coordinating their catch and shot in a fast-paced flow, improving their offensive skills and accuracy on goal.

Step-by-Step Drill Development:

  1. Equipment Setup:
Set up two lines of players about 6-8 yards above the goal line, facing each other. Ensure that every player in one line, except the first, has a ball.

  2. Drill Start:
The first player in the line without a ball prepares to receive a pass. The first player in the other line, with a ball, passes it to her.

  3. Immediate Catch and Shot:
The player receiving the pass catches it mid-air and immediately shoots on goal. This drill teaches players to finish plays with speed and accuracy, simulating offensive scenarios.

  4. Chain Passing and Movement:
After shooting, the player who passed the ball receives a pass from the next player in her line, who becomes the next shooter. The drill continues in quick succession, allowing players multiple repetitions.

  5. Continuous Repetition:
This fast pass-and-shoot pattern is repeated in a continuous flow, with each player alternating between passing and shooting lines, providing several opportunities to improve shot precision and catching on the run.

Drill Benefits:

  • Improves Catch-and-Shoot Coordination:
This drill helps players combine catching and shooting smoothly, essential for offensive plays.

  • Increases Shot Accuracy and Speed:
Executing shots quickly helps players develop accuracy and power, essential for effective offense.

  • Builds Endurance and Mental Quickness:
The Cross Creek drill challenges players physically and enhances their ability to make fast decisions, training them to react effectively under pressure.
