Backdoor Feed & Finish
This drill focuses on quick ball movement, off-ball movement, and finishing inside the 8-meter arc. It emphasizes feeding from behind the cage, cutting at the right angles, and timing—all essential for an effective offensive unit.
Setup:
Set up three lines:
Two high lines outside the 8M, positioned at the second inside hashes.
One low line on the left side of the crease.
Place the pile of balls in the top left line.
Execution:
1️⃣ X1 picks up a ball and dodges down the right side of the 8M.
2️⃣ X1 passes to the attacker in the low line (X2), who is cutting up to the ball.
3️⃣ X2 carries the ball behind the cage, fading around the crease.
4️⃣ X2 feeds a backdoor-cutting attacker from the top right line (X3) for a quick finish inside.
5️⃣ Players rotate:
X1 moves to X2’s spot
X2 moves to X3’s spot
X3 retrieves a ball and moves to X1’s spot
Key Focus Points:
✅ Timing of cuts & feeds – Attackers must lead the passer and move with purpose.
✅ Decision-making under pressure – Encourages quick reads for when to pass and when to dodge.
✅ Feeding from X (behind the goal) – Helps attackers develop vision and patience in a key offensive position.
✅ Finishing in tight spaces – Encourages quick sticks and smart shot placement inside.
Why This Drill Works:
This drill simulates game-like offensive movement by incorporating dodging, feeding from behind, and off-ball cutting. It reinforces proper spacing and timing, helping attackers learn to play instinctively and find high-percentage shots.
