Drill Development

Rondo Formation: A group of players forms a circle, with one player in the center attempting to intercept passes.

Passing Dynamics: The drill is played with a single ball, and players must pass it quickly while avoiding interception by the center player.

Additional Rules: Each time a player receives a pass, the two teammates next to him must perform a specific physical action to increase intensity, such as:

  • Push-up (to develop upper body strength)

  • Jump squat (to improve explosive power)

  • Quick stick taps on the ground (to enhance hand speed and control)

Variety in Actions: Physical actions can be modified based on players’ age and skill level to ensure engagement and challenge.

Incentives and Penalties: If a player performs the wrong action or hesitates in passing, he moves to the center of the rondo. This reinforces focus and quick decision-making.

Drill Variations

  • With more than one ball: Increase difficulty by introducing two balls at once.

  • With more defenders: Add additional players in the center to increase defensive pressure.

  • Including dodges: Before passing, the player with the ball must execute a quick dodge or fake to simulate game scenarios.

Drill Benefits

  • Enhances quick decision-making and passing accuracy.

  • Improves endurance and agility with added physical movements.

  • Reinforces teamwork and communication in high-pressure situations.

  • Maintains focus and intensity throughout the session.

This drill is an exciting and effective way to train fundamental lacrosse skills in a competitive and dynamic environment. Incorporate it into your next practice and elevate your team’s performance!
