Master the 'Give and Go': Boost Your Offense in Lacrosse
Introduction: The Give and Go drill is one of the most fundamental exercises for developing offensive skills in men's lacrosse. This play, which involves quick ball circulation between players, is key to breaking down defenses and creating scoring opportunities. Mastering this movement not only improves game vision and player coordination but also helps players learn to use space effectively. This drill is ideal for practicing timing, precision in passing, and the ability to read the defense under pressure.
How to Run the Drill:
Initial Setup: Two lines of offensive players are set up: one at the top of the field and one at the bottom (near the goal).
Drill Execution:
A player at the top line starts with the ball and passes it to a coach or player positioned at the wing.
The coach or player immediately returns the ball to the original player to execute the Give and Go (pass and go). The player then heads toward the goal to finish with a shot on the doorstep.
Meanwhile, at the bottom line, players have balls and perform the same movement. They pass the ball to another player or coach at the wing, who then returns the pass for the Give and Go and finish the play.
Rotation: After each shot, the top-line players rotate to the bottom line, while the bottom-line players rotate to the top to keep the drill moving.
Benefits of the Drill:
Improved communication: Players learn to read their teammates' intentions and communicate effectively during offensive plays.
Better passing precision: Quick, accurate passes are crucial to successfully executing the Give and Go.
Increased tempo: This drill helps players develop the fast pace needed to execute quick plays during real game situations.
Teamwork: By involving multiple players in a pass-and-move play, it encourages teamwork and synchronization between offensive players.
