3-Second, 3-Man Ground Ball to Shot Warm-Up
In this drill, the focus is on picking up a ground ball twice and then either catching and shooting or attacking from the backside. The drill emphasizes building offense off a ground ball and involves a three-second goal scoring window, known as the “three-second drill.” Participants can finish the ball in various ways, such as catch and shoot, catch-split-go, or hitch and go. The drill can be adapted for different scenarios and is effective as a warm-up, incorporating accurate passing, ground ball techniques, and overhand shooting fundamentals.
Set up:
- 3 lines up top
- the players in the front of the line steps up in front of the goal
- Coach roles out the ball to one of the lines
- Player picks up the ball, rolls away and makes a pass
- Player who receives the pass makes one more pass to the player who did not pick up the ground ball.
- Final player takes a shot from wherever they receive the ball..
Rolling the ball to a random player keeps the players on their toes.
Giving that the first player the option of who to pass to can promote creativity.
