3 cone scoop & shot drill

Objective: Improve shooting accuracy and quick release under simulated game conditions.

Equipment:

  • 3 cones or markers

  • Lacrosse balls

  • A goal

Setup:

  1. Place three cones in a straight line about 5 yards apart from each other, starting from a position about 10-15 yards out from the goal.

  2. The first cone should be directly in front of the goal (center), the second cone should be to the right of the first cone (right wing), and the third cone should be to the left of the first cone (left wing).

Instructions:

  1. Starting Position: Begin at the center cone with a lacrosse ball.

  2. Shooting:

    • Shoot the ball at the goal from the center cone.

    • Sprint to the right cone, scoop up a ball, and shoot.

    • Sprint back to the center cone, scoop up another ball, and shoot.

    • Sprint to the left cone, scoop up a ball, and shoot.

    • Return to the center cone.

  3. Repetition: Repeat the sequence for a set number of repetitions (e.g., 5-10 rounds) or for a set period (e.g., 5 minutes).

  4. Focus Points:

    • Focus on quick, accurate shots.

    • Work on maintaining proper shooting form.

    • Keep your head up and eyes on the target.

    • Practice both overhand and sidearm shots.

Variations:

  • Time Constraint: Perform the drill with a timer to simulate game pressure.

  • Dodging: Add a dodging move before each shot to simulate evading a defender.

  • Left-Handed Shots: For right-handed players, practice shooting with the left hand, and vice versa, to become proficient with both hands.

Benefits:

  • Enhances shooting accuracy and consistency.

  • Improves shooting form and mechanics.

  • Develops quick release and shot power.

  • Conditions players to shoot accurately while on the move.

This drill helps simulate game situations where quick and accurate shooting is crucial. Regular practice will lead to noticeable improvements in shooting skills.
