Top corner pick shift to the weak side

Struggling against an aggressive, athletic defense?

This strategy is perfect for countering high-pressure situations. By pulling defenders to one side through dodging, picks, and fast ball movement, your offense can exploit an overcommitting defense. Once the defense shifts, reversing the field to attack the weak side exposes gaps and vulnerabilities, creating open shooting lanes. The use of picks further ensures that your players’ hands are freed up, allowing for high-percentage shots and effectively neutralizing aggressive defensive pressure.

• This concept revolves around shifting the defense to one side of the field while the offense works to create an opportunity to attack the weak side.

• The key to success is moving the ball quickly and using picks to free up players’ hands, allowing them to take advantage of gaps in the defense.

Play Breakdown:

1. Initial Attack: The ball is passed to #1 in the corner, who dodges and threatens to score, pulling the defense toward him. If the defense doesn’t respond, #1 can drive straight to the goal.

2. Ball Movement: #5 serves as an outlet for #1. Once he receives the ball, #5 quickly moves it to #6, ensuring the defense remains engaged.

3. Field Reversal: #6 then reverses the field by passing to #3 on the opposite side. This is critical because it shifts the offense’s focus to the weak side of the defense.

4. Weak Side Attack: With the defense over-committed to one side, #3 attacks the weak side, pulling defenders toward him or going to the goal.

5. Cut and Screen: As #3 draws the defense in, #2 cuts to the ball, while #4 sets a screen on the shifted defender, space will be clears for #2 to catch the ball and take a shot.

Objective: By shifting the defense to one side and attacking from the other, the offense creates opportunities to exploit defensive weaknesses and generate high-percentage shots.
