Mastering Off-Ball Movements: The Mirror Shooting Drill in Lacrosse

The mirror shooting drill is excellent for teaching players to time off-ball movements and get open to receive passes. The coach rolls out a ball, and three players leave their cones. The first player picks up the ball and carries it below the goal line extended. The two players at the top work to get open and receive the pass, moving the ball quickly and shooting as fast as possible. You can also finish by re-feeding the ball to the player sneaking on the goal line.

Benefits:
The mirror shooting drill offers several important benefits for lacrosse players:

  • Improves passing and shooting accuracy: By practicing quick and precise movements, players develop greater accuracy in their passes and shots.

  • Develops quick decision-making: This drill forces players to think and act quickly, which is crucial in real game situations.

  • Promotes coordination and teamwork: Players must coordinate their movements and work together to complete the drill effectively.

  • Simulates game situations under pressure: By including elements like defense and time limits, players learn to handle pressure and make effective shots in real game scenarios.

  • Enhances off-ball movement: Players practice how to move without the ball to get open and receive passes, which is essential for maintaining game flow.

  • Increases speed and agility: The need to move quickly and change direction improves players’ speed and agility.
