Scouting Offenses

Sample Offensive things to look for from most important to least:

  • Do they have 1 superstar player?

    • Do we need to shut him off?

    • Do we need to slide early when he has the ball?

    • Fall into a zone when he has the ball?

  • Is there a weak link on the offense?

    • Do we need to shut off his adjacent pass when he has the ball?

    • Do we stay at home and not slide when he has the ball?

    • Do we have our defenemen pressure him?

  • Are they midfield or attack dominant?

  • How many men do they use in the crease?

  • Do they play a zone ride or a man to man ride?

  • Do their players get after you on the ride or do they sit back.

  • Do they get their goals off a dodge or a pass?

  • Are they a fast break team ?

  • Are the middies an outside threat?

  • Do they handle Pressure?

  • Do they run a true 2nd Offensive midfield?

  • Did they play against a zone?

Sample Coaching Notes:

  • Their scorer plants himself at the top of the key, catches and shoots.  He does not do much else but has a fantastic shot if his hands are free.

  • They are extremely aggressive on the ride, we will need our middies to come get the ball.

  • 2nd Middies – most D Mids – transition ball well

  • #5 is very nervous, he is always looking to pass the moment he has the ball, lets press him.

  •  I have not seen a player go left.

  • They run a fantastic set play off of the inbound endline after a shot. Immediately press the ball carrier so they do not have time to run their set play.
