Diamond Clear
Key Principles for Clearing
Always clear the ball to the opposite side of the box.
Prioritize getting the ball to short sticks immediately.
Phase 1: "LEAK"
Initial Movement:
After a shot, players "LEAK" out to attempt a fast break.
If a fast break opportunity isn’t available, transition into a Diamond Clear formation.
Middie Responsibilities:
If the opponent’s middie shoots, our middie covering them needs to "LEAK" out hard.
If the middie doesn’t receive the ball, they should shift towards the AWAY side.
Goalie Focus:
The goalie’s first look is where the shot came from to quickly move the ball upfield.
LSM Role:
Always get to "ZERO" over the shoulder.
If uncovered, slow down and call for the ball.
If covered (usually by the opponent’s best offensive middie), sprint to the top of the restraining line (RESLINE).
Phase 2: "RABBIT"
Ball Movement:
If the ball doesn’t quickly reach the AWAY side or "ZERO," the "RABBIT" must get low, stay active, and work for possession.
Decision-Making:
Once the "RABBIT" gains possession:
Look quickly to see if the ball can be HEADMANNED to "ZERO" or the AWAY side.
Avoid the BOX side, as it is typically too crowded.
Fallback Options:
If HEADMANNING isn’t possible, "STICK IT OUT" toward the AWAY side whenever possible.
Onside Management:
The middie entering from the BOX side must stay onsides.
If the "RABBIT" runs toward the BOX side, the AWAY side middie must ensure they remain onsides.
