History of LaxPlayBook
LaxPlayBook was conceived in 2011 against the historic backdrop of Bath, England, during the annual Bath 8's lacrosse tournament. As a varsity coach overseeing a youth program in California, I was brimming with ideas—both my own and those gleaned from interactions with fellow coaching aficionados. Recognizing the need to focus on a select few strategies executed with precision, rather than inundating players with excessive options, I pondered the fate of the many valuable concepts that couldn’t be immediately implemented.
This contemplation gave birth to LaxPlayBook—not as a prescriptive set of rules, but as a vibrant resource filled with varied perspectives. It’s designed to inspire coaches to craft their unique strategies by tapping into a rich pool of ideas. Although I paused the project in 2016 to concentrate on my business, PrepAgent, I re-launched LaxPlayBook in 2023 with a revitalized dedication to nurturing a community of forward-thinking and cooperative lacrosse coaches.
About Me
Hello fellow coaches and lacrosse enthusiasts,
I’m Joe, the creator of LaxPlayBook. My journey in the world of lacrosse has been both broad and deeply connected, spanning over two decades and across various levels of the game. I first picked up a lacrosse stick in Westchester, playing for Byram Hills High School and graduating in 1994. This early passion led me to Ithaca College and later to the University of Arizona, where I had the privilege of playing under two vastly different coaching styles—from Jeff Long's disciplined, Navy-influenced approach at Ithaca to the eccentric and flamboyant style of Micky-Miles Felton at Arizona.
Throughout my 20 year coaching career, I've coached all ages but mainly focused on high school varsity teams, drawing on my diverse playing experiences to mold young athletes. My commitment extended beyond the U.S., taking me to Colombia, where I played a pivotal role in growing the sport across Latin America. Here, I not only coached but also worked alongside local communities to foster a lasting appreciation for lacrosse.
In addition to coaching, I've served on numerous boards and selection committees, gaining a unique perspective on the evolution of the game and the essential qualities of leadership and sportsmanship that we strive to instill in our players.
I've always carried a single philosophy: lacrosse is more than a game—it's a community that thrives on shared passion and collective growth.
LaxPlayBook embodies this philosophy. It’s a platform for us to share, debate, and refine our approaches to coaching, ensuring that we’re not just teaching lacrosse but also cultivating leaders for tomorrow.
Feel free to reach out, share your thoughts, or simply connect over our love for lacrosse. Let’s keep the spirit of the game alive and thriving.

Best regards,
Joe
